Rejoice, Pray, Give Thanks

As I sent out an email just now, I looked at the bottom of my typing space, where the signature for my emails is. What a reminder to me, as I go through this tough time.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of YHVH in Yeshua HaMashiach for you."

This verse is comforting to me, because it keeps my eyes and my focus on my Savior, and on my King, rather than my sorrow, my grief, and my pain. I have been struggling with a little Peter-itis... Trying to walk in faith on water, but without my faith in the One who can keep me afloat, I could begin to sink into the murky depths.

We may never find out the circumstances of Beth Rose's death, but it won't change my love for her, nor my love for my Elohim/God, YHVH. It may sadden me more than I have experienced this week, since learning of her death, but He is still greater than my pain.

This last week has been a DOOZY. One week ago today, my bestest friend Beth died. I was told by her sister 6 days ago. As of today, we don't have the answers we are looking for/hoping for. There are lots of surmisings, lots of what I am calling conspira-thizing (conspiracy-theorizing), but no definite answers. And even if we get answers, will it make her death easier to bear? Probably not. I have spent the majority of this last week in a bubble/fog/protective cocoon, if you will. My Elohim YHVH has been protecting my heart against this great loss.

When Beth's sister told me on the phone, I began to cry, and I told her, "I'm so sorry! I should be comforting you, but right now I just can't!" And I cried. I reacted honestly, instead of my usual of trying to keep it together, and be calm, and trying to be strong for everyone else. It was a sucker punch to my heart. It still is.

Beth and I met in 7th grade, which is over 25 years ago. We became fast and close friends, and in no time became sisters. Not 'like' sisters, but sisters; we shared everything. We had an inexplicable bond. As teenagers, we were inseparable, and people would call us "The Beths", or the dynamic duo. If you saw one of us, you saw the other. We would hang out at school, and then get home and on the phone until one of us had to hang up. We would coordinate our outfit colors for the next day, and at times 'pretend' it was accidental, lol, but often it would happen without coordination. We finished each others sentences, shared dreams, silly memories, sadness, etc. Sounds like a teenaged friendship, right? But there was so much more! She had an electrifying personality, and even if we were up to no good, she brought out the best in me, and she said I did the same for her. She called me beautiful, and told me I looked like a porcelain doll. I would tell her she was nuts, and that *she* was the beautiful one. I used to wonder why in the world, out of all the people, why she chose *me* to be her best friend. And she would say the same thing to me. We both knew how blessed we were in our friendship.

As we grew up and had our own families to care for, we weren't in constant contact as we would have liked, even falling out of touch from time to time (seems like I was always moving), but when we would catch up, it was like no time had passed. Her spirit was always uplifting, and she got joy out of loving others, and lifting them up. She seemed to face life's trials head on, and tried to find a positive spin, and would laugh at times/things that I would have had a fit over. Our emails and texts and phone calls always began with, "Hey Beth, it's Beth!" She called me her dearest friend, her bestest friend. Even as adults, we had so many different bonds, and would find out that we had been going through similar health issues, and things like that.

She loved her husband, and her kids. She loved God and found joy in doing His work. She loved her family and friends fiercely, and was always protective of all of us. She put her heart and soul into caring for her family. This is the part where it's hard to keep typing. Everyone who knew her knew that she lived for God and her family. And not knowing what happened is really hard to deal with, again recognizing that even if we get answers, it might not make it any easier to deal with. One thing's for certain, I will always love Beth Rose (my family always called her Beth Rose so we'd know which one of us they were addressing), and her family, no matter what.

So this last week I've been in this bubble/fog, I don't know what to call it, except the protection of YHVH/God. I began to examine His Word, and even in my tears, declare His greatness. Some good friends, my husband, and the Word of YHVH advised me to stop looking at what happened, but look to the Rock of my salvation. To make certain that my feet are established on His truth, rooted in Him, so that even in this time of great sadness, pain, and loss, I won't lose sight of Him. A close sister gave me this advice, and I pass it on to you, too.

"I know you're probably getting all kinds of advice.  But all you can do is be thankful for the time you had with her and feel the sadness and grieve.  You can't explain it,  you won't figure anything out,  that's Yah's job.  Just mourn your loss.  Lift those children and her husband up in prayer. That is so devastating.  Nobody truly knows what was going on in her mind and never will.  Trying to figure it out is a distraction from going through the grieving process and having healing for yourself."

My husband spoke some beautiful words of encouragement to me, reminding me of our foundation (the Rock, not the sand), and of pillars of support. Of how, in a building, there are support beams that are designed to help carry the weight. I cannot share exactly what he spoke into me, but please know that it was beautiful, and a timely encouragement, as well as a confirmation for what Abba had been speaking to me. I share that with you, also.

My neighbor/friend suggested that maybe I am supposed to help by blanketing all who are involved in this loss in prayer, which is a confirmation to me.

I'm thankful for my family, my friends, my loved ones, and especially for YHVH my Elohim/God, and for my Messiah Yeshua/Jesus. I rejoice in His goodness, and am praying for all who are affected by loss, and I give thanks. And for today, it's more than enough to be able to rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

(I might add more later, but no guarantees)

Week 2 ~ Day 1 - Growing Through Prayer

Growing Through Prayer (A 'Loving God Greatly' Bible Study)

January 18, 2016

Week 2 ~ Day 1

SOAP: 1 Timothy 2:8

S:
“I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without wrath and doubting.”

O&A:
Pray: to offer prayers
Holy hands: of YHVH – undefiled by sin, free from wickedness, pure, holy, pious, hallowed
Without: without any person or thing – having NO association with; apart from; aloof from
Wrath: indignation – vehement exasperation
Doubting: the thinking of a man deliberating with himself; inward reasoning; hesitation; wavering in mind; calling in question

I tell you that this day, as I’m looking at the definitions for these words, there is a LOT standing out to me.  “The men in every place pray” so we are to pray without limit, no matter where we are.  “Lifting up holy hands”, hands that are free from wickedness.

Now here’s what’s really, really speaking to me:

WITHOUT wrath, WITHOUT doubting.  Having no association with indignation. Having no association with hesitation.  Having no association with inward reasoning.
Having no association with wavering in mind.

How many times have I cast my worries and troubles, my words at the feet of Him who sits on the throne, but there has been doubt niggling in the back of my mind?  Once, when we lived in Pensacola, FL, our pastor there passed out scraps of paper and told everyone to write down on that paper what was on their mind.  Years later, I did this in a children’s Sunday school class I was leading, following that example.  I asked the kids to write down their biggest worry.  Then, just as the pastor had instructed us to ball up the paper and throw it onto the altar, I asked the kids to toss theirs into the middle of the room.  It was freeing to do so!  The pastor had said to us, “Now don’t pick it up!  You’ve given it to God – don’t take it back.”  I said to the kids, “You’ve given your cares to God, would you take it back?”  Most shook their heads “no”.  However, a few of the kids did what we, as adults, don’t usually want to admit to: when given the chance, they went and picked up their paper.  They had watched where their paper landed, and retrieved it.  This is what I see in my mind as I read this verse.

There was a desire in me, all those years ago, to leave my paper crumpled up at the altar, and yet I was torn because I also wanted to retrieve it.  Even now, I sometimes have to force myself to leave it with my Melek, my King, and not try to take hold of the care myself.  It’s usually easier to do so now, but let the concern be about money, and my mind wants to run up and grab the concerns back, as if I have any power!  But praise be to Yah, HE is able!  I have even, at times, asked Him to not allow me to think about it.  “Take this concern out of my mind, Abba.” I have requested of Him.  And He does.  Not until it comes to pass, or is resolved will He bring it back to mind.  In this, I am reassured of His Sovereignty, and of His ability: that He alone is my strength, and my fortress.

P:
Abba, YHVH, Sovereign King of the Universe, great and mighty in power are You!  Father, I ask that You would forgive me my doubts, and my indignations.  I pray that You would forgive me of the times that I have not come before You with undefiled hands, and that You would forgive my moments of not willing to relinquish myself, my desires, my troubles, my cares, my angers, my hostilities, my fleshly desires to You!  I pray that You would forgive my reluctance to pray openly when You’ve called me to, in every place, with regard only to You, and not for location or company.  Abba, I pray that You would continue in Your teaching me to not debate in my mind that which I bring before You, so that I would be of one mind, and one accord with You, my beloved.  Let me boast only of YOU!  When I lift my arms to You in praise and worship, let my hands and my heart be pure and undefiled so that they might be acceptable to You, and able to go forth and do Your bidding.  When I reach out to You, You answer, my Elohim.  You have called me out of the miry clay, and I praise You and thank You this day that You have done so!  I exalt You, and ask that we would see our beloved family members, friends, brothers, and sisters called out of their miry clay and into Your kingdom - to be crafted into Your vessels, to do Your works, to be Your light.  In Your Son Yeshua’s blessed name, Amein.

Daybook November 9 & 10, 2015

For Today...
The Bible says in Matthew 6:34 "Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Each day's own evil is sufficient."  So today I will focus on today, and the issues thereof.

Outside my window...
It is looking like winter is steadily approaching.  The trees are not yet bare, and many still hold their leaves, but the sky is overcast in a winter-y type of way, and the temperature is chilly!  I have all of the windows open.  I love this season.

I am thinking...
How much I love my mom.  My dad passed away 2 years ago, on November 1, and we were estranged for about 15 years prior to his passing.  We actually found out by happenstance almost 2 weeks after his death.  No one had even tried to get in touch to notify us of his death, or even his illness.  In retrospect, I'm thankful for his family that was there with him at the end.  Although I was shocked by the news, and saddened, because I had always hoped for a reunion and this meant that there would be no earthly reunion, I began to think about how much my mom has been there for my sister and me.  Without going into too much detail. I was a pretty rotten apple in my teen-aged and younger adulthood years, and my mom never gave up on me, even if she felt like it.

So, thanks Ma.
I love-it you. <3

I am thankful...
For this family that I am blessed with.  For the Father and my Messiah, whom I am learning to better serve.  I'm thankful for my sister Carrie, and my sister Shan Shan.  I hope that a reconciliation can be made with Monica.  I don't know about my step-sisters from my step-mom, or even my half-brother.  I'm thankful for them, and hopeful that they are happy in their lives, and I pray that all of my siblings are following the plan that Yah has for their lives.

I am wearing...
Exercise capris, undershirt, and a big shirt over it... New day, new 'fit.  Dark purple jogging pants, light purple T-shirt.

I am creating...
We will be making some lamp shades for the boys to put at their beds.  We will be following this video by CatCraft.cc  We watched many others, but this one was simply genius in the method.  We are using IKEA lights, these ceiling hooks, and two different yarns.  The Little has chosen this yarn in sea foam, and The Big has chosen this yarn in wine.  (Big shout-out to their Grandma, my momma, for making all of this happen by purchasing these items.  She loves to encourage our creativity, as she is a very creative lady, indeed. <3 )

I am going...
Uhhh.. on a walk in a little bit..?  To the mailbox.

I am wondering...
Why I must be so hard-headed sometimes.  And then I wonder why my sons display stubborn-ness.  I don't mean the kind you might think I'm referencing - I'm talking about when YHVH instructs, or gives a specific thing to do, and we don't do it.  Maybe it's out of fear of change.  Maybe fear of submission?  But in other areas, we are completely obedient.  Honor, observe, keep Shabbat? Check.  Observe the feast days of YHVH?  Check.  Wake up early because He said to? Oh.  Order my day in the way He prescribed?  Double-Oh.

I am reading...
The Bible.  I have some books I should crack open, but lately my focus is not in them.

I am hoping...
Truth be told, up until last week, I had been placing my hope somewhere that it didn't belong.  I fell this past May in a hole at our apartment complex, and have earned around $17,000 in medical bills because of it.  I had been thinking that we would see our needs provided for in this area, and was sorely disappointed when it didn't come through.  After recognizing what Yah was speaking to me about *why* it didn't come through, I praised Him!  He told me that we had been hoping on this, and instead we need to hope on and in Him.  For everything.  For all things.
Baruch HaShem YHVH!
(Bless the name of YHVH)
I'm also hoping in Yah for healing of degenerative disc disease, degenerative facet disease, spondylosis, etc., in my back.  This was all found after the fall that I mentioned.  Even if it was present prior to the accident, it wasn't causing me problems, and now I suffer from pain from it every day.  Every day I am blessed by the hope of the new body I will receive in Yah's kingdom, and every day I wait for being back to no pain while I remain in this physical body.

I am learning...
Obedience to Yah, above all else, above all others.
I'm also learning through my neighbor how to be a better neighbor!
So thankful for you, Mary!

In my garden...
I don't have a garden, per se...

In my kitchen...
I need to put a chicken on to cook.  I like to make several meals out of one fryer chicken - I can usually get at least 4 meals for our family of 4.  With the broth from boiling the chicken, I make a soup, and then I pick pieces off of the chicken for the other meals.  This has been a blessing for us, as we have been having a LOT of meals from the basic staples of beans and rice.  We own a lawn care company, and as I mentioned above, the winter season is approaching, so we have to be much more economical about how and where we spend our income.
Beans can be made in so many different ways, and we have black beans and pinto beans on hand.  (I feel like we're kind of becoming like the Bubba (from Forrest Gump) of beans.)  We also have (all organic) white rice, brown rice, wild rice, and some ramen noodles (not Top Ramen - these are made from brown rice, I think), so we have many ways we can mix the dishes up!  Last night, I made some of the ramen noodles, and did a tamari sauce with green beans and chunks of chicken.. a HUGE hit with my fellas!

In the homeschool room...
We have begun keeping a journal about what we are learning.  I feel like at the end of the year, when we look back through the journals, it will be neat to see how we've grown, and how we understood what we were learning.  Plus, it's a stress-free journal - there's no wrong way to do it!  The Big's homeschool chemistry curriculum arrived today, and after reading all of the warnings, we were all like, "Okay, we're a bit scared, but as long as we follow the directions, we can do this."
This is the chemistry curriculum.  Our usual curriculum is Homeschooling Torah, if you were wondering. :)

A favorite quote for today...
Matthew 6:33
"But seek first God's kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."
Do you wonder what "all these things" that will be given to you are?  Just above this verse, it is stated that we worry about what we will wear/clothe ourselves with, what we will eat drink, but as children of YHVH/God, we must know that He knows we need these things, and we must trust that He will provide.

A peek into one of my days...
I am awaiting the call from my friend who is *literally* due any day now!  I don't know which day it will be, and am thankful for all that Yah has done in this family.  It took great faith to get them to this point, which is coming to fruition!  Every time the phone rings, we're like, "Is it the call?!?"  :)

One of my favorite things...
This ALWAYS cheers me up.  :)  Totally love The Sound of Music.

From the board room...
Gosh.  I guess the board room could be our business..?  I am working on invoices, and putting in payments; moving the schedule to fit our clients' winter needs, and hoping to take on more work in this cold season.

Post Script
A favorite thing that I do is an online Bible study (we discuss it on Facebook).  The ladies in there are so encouraging to me!  I have been studying with them for over a year, and although I am by far not the most diligent poster, I read the posts, and am always touched at the insight, compassion, and openness I see there, and I am always so blessed by these ladies!
