David Study: Week 1 - Tuesday

Week 1: Tuesday
June 7, 2016
Read:  1 Samuel 17:12-15; 1 Samuel 17:32-37
SOAP:  1 Samuel 17:14-15

S: “David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Sha'ul. Now David went back and forth from Sha'ul to feed his father's sheep at Beit-Lechem.”

O&A:  What mighty faith David had in YHVH!  As I finished reading verses 32-37, I loved how David used personal examples of Abba’s deliverance and stood on the assurance of Elohim.

We (I) sometimes despise small beginnings.  David had what looked like small beginnings, tending to his father’s flock, but he proved faithful and trustworthy in this task.  In the face of trouble, he continued to be trustworthy, not leaving the sheep when danger appeared, but fighting for the safety of his father’s flock (with his bare hands, he took a sheep out of the mouth of danger!).  He may not have known it at the time, but he was being prepared for even mightier works.  What he did know, though, was that even in tending the sheep, he was serving Elohim.  Can I say the same for myself?  Do I always work unto YHVH, or do I sometimes grumble against my tasks? (Yes, unfortunately.)  This is helping put into perspective and real-life application that which we speak and teach to our children: to work with joy unto YHVH.  This is Biblical, right, and proper to do.  I pray that I would remember and do as David’s example here sets, not only when tending sheep (which takes great attention, diligence, and perseverance), but also when facing the larger giants/problems/issues in this life.  And to be ready when Abba calls!

If I look back over my life, I can see where He was training me in certain areas that, lately, He has been calling me into action to, and I can identify “ohhh, that was when He asked me to tend the sheep, and now that same training is for slaying a giant”.    Not to bring the secular in, but it makes me think of the original Karate Kid… Daniel-son was tired of waxing cars (wax on, wax off), and painting fences, but when the battles came, he was prepared.  He had already learned the moves without knowing he was learning the moves, until it was time to go into action.

P:  Abba, You are so mighty, and so loving of us, Your children.  I thank You over and over again for Your teachings, and even for Your corrections.  I pray that You would continue to prepare me for the bigger battles through Your strength training, and that I wouldn’t fight against you in the process.  I pray that You would forgive me for contending with You and have mercy upon me in Your forgiveness, Your mercy, Your loving-kindness.  I pray that my faith would continue to grow so that when faced with battles, large or small, I would never ever forget where my strength comes from, and I would never forget that YOU are in control.  In Yeshua’s name, Amein.
