Good morning!

I don't think I slept all that well last night, and I have decided that it must have been the Spiced Chai I drank before bed.  We switched to decaf coffee and I've given up soda, so the caffeine must have amped my body and mind up.  In fact, that's the only reason I'm here- I couldn't get back to sleep!

I am really looking forward to this afternoon.  I began homeschooling my sons this year, and we're using K12.com as our curriculum.  We've also recently invested in a lesson plan from Math-U-See for our 7th grader who is struggling with math.  By the way, the genius of Math-U-See is that instead of the idea that since a child is in this grade, they should be learning these concepts, the lessons go by progression.  We've always told the boys that math is basically like building blocks: this year you learn this because next year you'll build upon that, and so on.  With the assessment test, we've been able to pinpoint that ONE building block that the 7th grader didn't quite grasp that's now become a hindrance to his pre-algebra.  Yay!  Back on topic, though.

So K12.com is our main curriculum, and their school is LAVCA (Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy).  Most of the school events that are hosted are too far away for us to attend (usually 2 1/2 to 3 or more hours away) and today there is one close, so we get to attend!  It's a Game Rally, with lots of age/grade appropriate educational games to get the students ready for the testing that's coming up soon.

We've also joined a co-op that meets up on Mondays, appropriately named Monday School.  It's a great place for the boys to get some extra learning in, as well as meeting new friends and getting out of the house.  We attended our first ever this past Monday, and the boys aren't the only ones looking forward to it this coming week!

So I guess this is it, for now.  The good news is that I'm already ahead of my blog posts from last year (that wasn't hard to surpass at all!).  I pray you enjoy your day.
